Hendre offers tailor made Artist in Residency programs for Secondary schools. These programs have proven to be highly successful and of great benefit to the students involved.
Hendre’s success in these extended school programs is due not only to his eclectic knowledge of story writing, story structure, story genre and story style, but also his creative ability to see immediately, the story potential in the ideas presented to him by the students he works with.
Hendre strongly believes that all students love to write and his enthusiasm for writing is infectious. He effortlessly shows students how easy it is for them to create and construct stories and writing pieces that are unique, personal, gripping and entertaining.
Often Hendre ends the residency by publishing a collaborative book of the students’ completed stories.
The Artist in Residence program consists of:
- 2 x storytelling performances (100 students per session)
- 5 x writing workshops with 25 students (60-90 mins each)
- 3 x days editing with individual students
- 1 graduation ceremony and
- the production of a published book.
Run down:
Each of the selected 25 students participating in the workshops will take part in five writing workshops and will produce a draft copy piece of writing in each session.
These pieces will be collected by Hendre and taken home, read and individually responded to. This writing will be handed back to the students at the start of each subsequent workshop.
At each sessions students will receive positive and constructive feedback on their writing and prizes of books and or stickers.
In the editing sessions, students will choose one of the five pieces as their favourite or strongest piece. This will then be edited with Hendre’s help to become their finished story for the published book, that will be completed for Graduation day.
Hendre will publish three complete books for the school and provide the school with a flash drive copy of the material so that the school may publish more books if they wish. NB The school and the individual students retain Copy Right for all the stories published.
The school will not be charged for the additional time required to produce the book.
On Graduation day all students who complete the course requirements will receive a folder containing all of their draft documents, a limited edition Graduation Certificate, a personal letter from Hendre thanking them for their participation, and own a copy of their story as it appears in the book.
Course requirements:
Each student must:
- Complete 5 draft pieces of writing each of a minimum length
- Edit, format and present one of the pieces for inclusion in the book.
Artist in Residencies are available in 1st & 4th terms and the fees for this program is$7500.00
